Record VIP Numbers at Airport
Over 1300 airport operations conducted in only two weeks. Airport Wrocław served approximately 3000 people with a VIP status, mostly guests of the EU Presidency-related events. It was the busiest month in history of Airport Wrocław and a proof of being prepared for welcoming guests of the 2012 European Football Championships.
8 columns for 8 delegations, together about 20 cars approach… a single plane. This is a picture from one of the VIP arrivals at Airport Wrocław. In the crucial period (10-23 September) 1319 operations were performed. This number exceeds the same period of 2010 by more than 200. A record was made on September 23, when 115 operations were served. The airport worked on its full capacity. Planes were noticed to form a landing queue in order to retain proper flow. ‘It was a really large logistic challenge, as this the first time we served this many guests in a short period of time. Our staff deserves congratulations from both the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the airport, because everything went according to plans’ declares Mr. Dariusz Kuś, CEO of Airport Wrocław. ‘A valuable experience before the next year’s Euro 2012 tournament and proof that the airport will manage the increase in passenger numbers.’ adds Mr. Kuś.
Polish Presidency and its events held in Wrocław meant a test not only for the assigned 90 airport employees but also for the temporary VIP terminal and newly opened south apron. ‘The VIP terminal stood up to our expectations perfectly. It accommodated up to 50 passengers at a time, allowing them to comfortably await their departure. The latest 3D TV in the multimedia corner made a sensation, providing fun for everyone.’ recalls Ms. Izabela Prażmowska, Airport Service Shift Manager. For the first time since opening the renovated south apron was filled completely. It serves as a stop for smaller planes. ‘There were moments when it was entirely filled, but it is no surprise since during merely two weeks 172 private jets landed in Wrocław. Almost twice more than last year.’ adds Ms. Prażmowska.
September brought a record of VIP traffic which would surely be hard to believe for the ordinary passengers departing or arriving at the same time. ‘Both inside and in front of the terminal the increase in traffic was barely noticeable. VIP passengers were handled at the same time but with no interference with standard passengers. This method appeared to be a great success.
VIP facilities also fulfilled their role during the boxing match Adamek vs Klitschko. Polish boxer waited for his flight in the VIP terminal shortly after the fight for world championship with Witalij Klitschko. We wonder whether polish football team will also use the VIP services when coming to Wrocław for their third group stage match. Airport Wrocław also awaits its game of dealing with an endless number of VIP passengers during the Euro 2012 championships. ‘If we think of the September Presidency events as a sparring then this can surely be said: we are in a pretty good shape! Seriously speaking I can declare that with knowledge gathered in the past few weeks we are able to handle all logistic difficulties’ claims Mr. Kuś.
